Abjeez
Abjeez means "sisters" in Farsi/Persian, and was founded by sisters Safoura and Melody Safavi, both born in Iran to Azeri parents. They became interested in music at an early age. The band is based in the Swedish town Östersund. Perhaps "world pop" best describes Abjeez music. The Abjeez unique sound is influenced by wide mixture of styles like Reggae, Flamenco, SKA, Rock and Latino mastered to its' own description of original melody and songs. The lyrics are in Persian.
The Abjeez' break-out album "Hameh" - including the track from their DVD "Eddeaa", was released in late 2006 (video below) and chosen by New York's Tribeca Film Festival for the short film competition.
Their lyrics, often humorous and sometimes rebellious, are written in Farsi, but the expressive groove of the music and the Abjeez’ dramatic delivery break down all language barriers to create a new synthesis of cultures. Abjeez sang "Biaa" (Join us) in solidarity with Iran's green reform movement in 2009.
