Gita Khadiri
Gita Khadiri is a Senior Tax Counsel with the law firm of Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney LLP. She is a member of the Tax Management and Business Tax Practice Groups of the firm's Tax Section.
Prior to joining Buchanan, Gita worked as an attorney-advisor in the Income Tax and Accounting Division of the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel. Gita's career with the Internal Revenue Service provides additional experience to her practice where she provides guidance regarding general domestic tax matters. There, she evaluated proposed legislation, drafted regulations and revenue procedures, and worked as a reviewer on behalf of the assistant chief counsel (Income Tax & Accounting). She also served as a general tax attorney for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel's Disclosure Litigation Division, where she defended the IRS in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and unauthorized disclosure of tax return information cases. Her contributions to the IRS Office of Chief Counsel have been recognized by many Chief Counsel Special Act and performance awards.
Gita Khadiri has written many legal articles throughout her career, including several in-depth articles analyzing recent tax legislation. In addition, she drafted important tax guidance documents that appear in the Internal Revenue Cumulative Bulletin.
Gita received her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law, in 1990, where she was topics editor of the American University Journal of International Law and Policy. She received her undergraduate degree in economics, and French language and literature from the University of Virginia in 1987. She is admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C., and Virginia, and before the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the California State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Virginia State Bar and the United States Supreme Court Bar Association. Gita is fluent in Farsi (Persian) and French.
