Nazanin Afshin Jam
Nazanin Afshin-Jam, born 1979 in Tehran, Iran, is an Iranian-Canadian Human Rights Activist, Singer, Songwriter, model, actress, pilot, former Miss World Canada and Miss World 1st runner up. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1981. She has spoken before various international tribunes against violations of human rights in Iran.
Nazanin successfully campaigned to stop, in 2007, the execution of Nazanin Fatehi, a 17-year old Iranian girl who had stabbed a rapist in Karaj (a suburb of Tehran). The awe-inspiring story and connection of the two Nazanins was captured in "The Tale of Two Nazanins." To deliver on her promise to use half the proceeds of "The Tale of Two Nazanins" for future non-violent and educational initiatives, Afshin Jam has launched a new "non-political" charitable organization, The Nazanin Foundation, to educate and empower women and youth everywhere, particularly in impoverished area of the world such as Kurdistan.
Nazanin and her husband Peter MacKay (currently Canadian Minister of Justice) are both very involved in the life of their son Kian.
