Hamid Motebassem
Hamid Motebassem, an Iranian Tar and Setar player, was born in 1958 in Mashhad, Iran. He was raised in a musically-oriented family, where his brother was a violinist and his father, Ali Motebassem, who played Tar, was his first music teacher.
He started to study with musicians like Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Hossein Alizadeh and Hushang Zarif. In 1991 Motebassem founded Dastan ensemble which is one of the most prolific ensembles of contemporary Classical Persian music. Motebassem lives in the Netherlands and continues to compose, perform and teach Persian Classical Music.
